JD on Josue De Paula (Jul 10, 2026): De Paula is flying up everyone's prospect rankings pages across the board and I would feel silly if I didn't also get on the hype train. I will be very curious to see if he really leans into his power potential or if he never really blossoms and is a high-ish average doubles guy. To me that is what's going to separate him from being a top 100-ish asset to a top 30 asset. My main issue with De Paula is that he's blocking a bunch of other Dodgers outfield prospects (Hope, Tibbs) and there's not enough playing time to go around for all these young exciting guys. I guess it's true that the rich get richer huh?
JD on Leodalis De Vries (Sep 11, 2026): Really brutal news for Leo that he will be out for 8 months with shoulder surgery. Luckily it's during the offseason and he's so young and it's not crucial that he gets a ton of reps right now. It would be nice to see him knocking on the door of the big leagues next year with a really strong spring and start to the 2027 season. I imagine this takes any hope of a 2027 debut as a 20-year-old out of the picture but still leaves the chance that he makes his 2028 debut as a 21 year old in play. I like what Sebastian Walcott has been able to do coming back from injury so I'm hopeful that Leo will take the time to develop, get stronger, and come out of this better off in the long run. Not selling if I own him here.
