What the staff says

JD on Jac Caglianone (Oct 21, 2026): Cags took a major leap forward in the second half of 2026 and may have gone under the radar because the Royals didn't have much else to watch this year. He slashed .337/.373/.549 with 8 home runs and 4 stolen bases, all while limiting his Ks to a very manageable 20.6% K rate. The underlying metrics back it up too with a 93.8(!) Average EV and xwOBA of .363, which wasn't far off from his full-season xwOBA of .359. The only thing in the profile that really screams regression is the .361 BABIP, however his expected batting average was .283 because the quality of his contact is so strong. I wouldn't expect as much batting average regression as you would typically expect to see from someone who ran a BABIP this high. The last piece of the puzzle that I'd really like to see from someone with as much power as he has is an improved launch angle. If he can get his 7.7° launch angle up to even 10° he's going to hit so many more home runs with how hard he hits the ball. From there, his only real deficit is his poor walk rate. But if it doesn't lead to an alarming amount of strikeouts, a la Joey Gallo, I'm not sure we necessarily need to concern ourselves with it from a fantasy perspective. I think he will be a very valuable dynasty asset if he makes that one tweak, and don't be afraid to make a big move early in 2027 if you see positive launch angle progress in April.

JD on Josue De Paula (Oct 21, 2026): I know some people are hyping up the Paula to be as high as their No. 1 overall prospect, and I want to pump the brakes just a tiny bit while still being reasonably optimistic. I think he is a very high-end prospect and anyone who is currently rostering should be thrilled with how much he has developed in 2026 alone. However I still think what I said earlier this year is true: that there is a chance the game power doesn't catch up to the raw power and he has trouble lifting the ball. I can't help but see Jason Heyward when I look at De Paula, I remember how hyped everyone was on Jason Hayward when he first came up. I also remember how he eventually lost the ability to lift the ball and his fantasy value went with it. That's really the only flaw and hesitation I see with this game because otherwise he has some of the best power in the minors, with incredible plate discipline and tools that should all add up to be a premium player for years to come. Even if the launch angle issues manifest, he's still going to be a very valuable player for a long time and I don't think I'm insulting him by ranking him as my fourth overall prospect. Congratulations if you found him early and held on to him, he should be a treat for many years to come.
