JD on Carter Jensen (Nov 6, 2026): I flirted with so many people to round out the top 75. I wanted to go with Walker Jenkins. Another part of me wanted to please the crowd and put Wyatt Langford here. At the end of the day, I settled on Carter Jensen for an admittedly simple reason: he ended the season scorching lava hot. With an OPS of nearly 1.200 and 8 home runs in 80 at-bats, he was a league winner if you were lucky enough to have him on your playoff roster. It led to a very respectable .790 OPS for the 2026 season, with underlying metrics that support a better line than he actually had. If you could take the midpoint of Carter Jensen's fly ball tendency with Jac Caglianone's line drive tendency, you might have the best power hitter in baseball and a perennial MVP candidate. Alas, we are stuck with an xBA of .217 in 2026 for Jensen and a 7.7-degree launch angle for Jac. I'm looking for Jensen to build on his red-hot September in 2027 and flirt with a batting average closer to .260 rather than dropping further from his .239 BA in 2026. If he can string together those improvements and get his feet under him earlier in the season, I think he's going to surprise a lot of people next year. Also, a lineup with Bobby Witt Jr. and Jac Caglianone supporting Jensen makes the Royals a sneaky threat next year. Not only will it help the counting stats of all three, it might make KC surprise contenders next year.
JD on Shea Langeliers (Nov 5, 2026): I think people may be forgetting that Shea Langeliers has been one of the most dangerous hitters in the league over the last two seasons. Despite relatively pedestrian statistics entering his 2025 season, he has really taken another step forward by taking full advantage of Sutter Health Park and absolutely crushing lefties. Here is his 2026 grid: and his 2025 grid: Maybe he is just a function of the Sutter Health Park lift, but he should enjoy a 2027 with a lot of tailwinds that will make it hard to finish outside of the top 3 catchers if health permits. I'm hoping the A's get him off his feet as much as possible in 2027 and DH him, although that may be tough with Brent Rooker coming back and slotted in as the regular DH. All told, I would expect him to be close to the top catcher options in 2027 and 2028, and a potential transition after that where he still retains catcher eligibility but doesn't take as much of a beating behind the dish and still retains the value he brings with the bat.
