JD on Carter Jensen (Nov 6, 2026): I flirted with so many people to round out the top 75. I wanted to go with Walker Jenkins. Another part of me wanted to please the crowd and put Wyatt Langford here. At the end of the day, I settled on Carter Jensen for an admittedly simple reason: he ended the season scorching lava hot. With an OPS of nearly 1.200 and 8 home runs in 80 at-bats, he was a league winner if you were lucky enough to have him on your playoff roster. It led to a very respectable .790 OPS for the 2026 season, with underlying metrics that support a better line than he actually had. If you could take the midpoint of Carter Jensen's fly ball tendency with Jac Caglianone's line drive tendency, you might have the best power hitter in baseball and a perennial MVP candidate. Alas, we are stuck with an xBA of .217 in 2026 for Jensen and a 7.7-degree launch angle for Jac. I'm looking for Jensen to build on his red-hot September in 2027 and flirt with a batting average closer to .260 rather than dropping further from his .239 BA in 2026. If he can string together those improvements and get his feet under him earlier in the season, I think he's going to surprise a lot of people next year. Also, a lineup with Bobby Witt Jr. and Jac Caglianone supporting Jensen makes the Royals a sneaky threat next year. Not only will it help the counting stats of all three, it might make KC surprise contenders next year.
JD on Hunter Goodman (Nov 5, 2026): I'm probably one of the biggest Hunter Goodman haters, but I'm not ranking these players in a vacuum and still have to take into account their situation and environment. Coors Field is clearly incredible for his production, and a batting average that would potentially dip into the low .200s is still a serviceable .245 due to how many balls will drop playing in Coors that wouldn't drop anywhere else. Additionally he doesn't really have the skill set that a guy like Shea Langeliers has (still benefits from a great park environment but hits the ball a lot harder and strikes out a bit less than Goodman). All that being said, you can't separate the ballpark from the player and Goodman should be in a prime position to challenge the league leaders in home runs over the next couple of seasons while still being serviceable in all the other 5x5 categories. Hopefully his 30% K rate doesn't creep any higher, as it's already 4% higher than it was in 2025, and if that trend continues he could get into trouble quickly.
