What the staff says

JD on Carter Jensen (Nov 6, 2026): I flirted with so many people to round out the top 75. I wanted to go with Walker Jenkins. Another part of me wanted to please the crowd and put Wyatt Langford here. At the end of the day, I settled on Carter Jensen for an admittedly simple reason: he ended the season scorching lava hot. With an OPS of nearly 1.200 and 8 home runs in 80 at-bats, he was a league winner if you were lucky enough to have him on your playoff roster. It led to a very respectable .790 OPS for the 2026 season, with underlying metrics that support a better line than he actually had. If you could take the midpoint of Carter Jensen's fly ball tendency with Jac Caglianone's line drive tendency, you might have the best power hitter in baseball and a perennial MVP candidate. Alas, we are stuck with an xBA of .217 in 2026 for Jensen and a 7.7-degree launch angle for Jac. I'm looking for Jensen to build on his red-hot September in 2027 and flirt with a batting average closer to .260 rather than dropping further from his .239 BA in 2026. If he can string together those improvements and get his feet under him earlier in the season, I think he's going to surprise a lot of people next year. Also, a lineup with Bobby Witt Jr. and Jac Caglianone supporting Jensen makes the Royals a sneaky threat next year. Not only will it help the counting stats of all three, it might make KC surprise contenders next year.

JD on Rainiel Rodriguez (Nov 2, 2026): Rainiel is one of the most exciting prospects in the minor leagues, and potentially has the best pure bat of any prospect today. I don't think there's any chance, long term, he ends up behind the plate as he will probably get moved to first base in the big leagues, so I'm not dinging him with the same catcher discount I might for another prospect. He put up an OPS of nearly 1.000 across 500+ plate appearances in 2026, slugging 27 home runs and adding 11 stolen bases for good measure, with a very reasonable 19% K rate. Hitting over .300 at any level is impressive, but when you can do it while hitting 27 HRs it gets me a whole new level of excited. The only risk here is the body: it seems he loves his fair share of plantains, chicken, and rice. We've seen how this affected a guy like Vlad Jr. and the volatility that comes with the extra weight, but I'm not willing to ding him too much for something that's only potentially a concern down the line. If it weren't for that risk, he might be closer to my number 1 prospect, but I still love him and think he will have a long successful career as a bat-first 1B at the big league level.
