JD, : I have been so impressed with Bazzana in his debut and I think we are seeing the onset of the next Chase Utley caliber second baseman in the major leagues. The upsides are obvious so let's focus on the potential downsides that would make it so Bazzana isn't a top 50 dynasty asset going forward. Middling average exit velocity (89.9) Average hard hit rate (38.6%) Low barrel rate (3.8%) XWOBA - .336 However, that has translated into a WRC+ of 148 with an WOBA of .386, and I think that shows how Savant doesn't ALWAYS necessarily incorporate everything that goes into making a good real-life and dynasty fantasy baseball asset (This is a good proxy a majority of the time, but every evaluation metric has it's gaps). If you're striking out 16.8% of the time and walking 13.3% of the time, you have such a high floor that you can negate a lot of the bad luck that a higher or more free-swinging player would tend to experience over the course of the season. We didn't have the benefit of seeing a guy like Chase's at least Statcast metrics but I have to imagine he wasn't off the charts in all of those categories because he wasn't trying to maximize each category. Instead he was opting for the minimum viable swing to be an exceptional offensive player. This is the same playbook I am seeing with Bazzana and why I am willing to go so high on him so early. One other note on Bazzana: as I was going through the second base rankings, I couldn't believe how thin it is. Just one more check box for going all in on him.
