JD on Chase DeLauter (Oct 27, 2026): I've been bought in on Chase DeLauter since he was in the minors, so it would be silly of me to jump off now. He's a rare hitter nowadays. He doesn't sell out for max bat speed or max power, instead keeping the swing short, makes high-quality contact, and hits the ball just hard enough for it to leave the yard. His 2026 data largely back it up: a 14.7% K rate, a 15.0% whiff rate and a 21.1% chase rate, with a 91.4 mph average EV and a 46.3% hard-hit rate. He's not a barrel monster (6.3%), but that's not the point. He rarely gets overwhelmed at the plate, and I feel like he can hold up against anyone. His swing almost reminds me of Chase Utley's, just in a bigger, stronger frame. The result was a .287/.363/.457 line with 16 HR, 11 SB, and a .277 xBA with a 131 wRC+ in his first full season. The ceiling isn't as high as some of the guys around him, and that's the trade-off with this approach. The thing you really have to watch out for with him is health and durability. He broke his foot in college, then lost chunks of his minor league career to foot fractures, turf toe, a sports hernia and a broken hamate, which is a big part of why he got overlooked as a prospect. This year he fractured a rib in June, and a hamstring issue and a wrist issue cost him games in September. Luckily, none of it seemed to affect him too much. Outside of the injury concerns, I think he has one of the higher floors in fantasy. Give him a full, healthy 2027 and he's easily a top 50 player for the next couple of years. The consensus still has him around 80, so this is your chance to buy before everyone else catches on.
JD on Theo Gillen (Nov 5, 2026): Oh do the Rays have another top prospect to salivate over? I can't help but think that Theo Gillen should have been getting at-bats in the playoffs for the Rays, the combination of Deluca, Vilade, Williamson, and Walls feeling like automatic outs at the end of their lineup was ridiculous. Theo Gillen really took another step forward this year, hitting 22 home runs after hitting only 5 across his first two minor league seasons. That was really the one piece missing and the piece that I wasn't sure would ever develop when he was first touted as a top prospect (as I wasn't sure the power would develop). When you pair that with a .968 OPS and a double-digit walk rate, he looks like he will be a mainstay in the big leagues for years to come. I feel like Carson Benge is a pretty good comp to Gillen. I think if he gets a full season of at-bats next year, he could put together a similar standout rookie campaign. That would catapult him into (or close to) the top 25 dynasty rankings at the end of 2027 heading into 2028.
