#15 Paul Skenes SP PIT 26.1
Is it time to start worrying about Paul Skenes? He is down 1.6mph on his FB since the start of the season and 3.8mph off his debut in '24.
Maybe it doesn't matter for the rest of this season, but if you are playing in dynasty leagues are you still comfortable with him at #1SP?
What about when you see this chart of his average spin rate per game?
I think I have to knock him down to #SP3 based on this, and I'm holding my breath because I'm worried it's about to get a lot worse. I'm not so much worried about the game performance (7ER in 4 IP) because those games happen but the underlying metrics are at least somewhat concerning.
I hope I am wrong because Skenes is great for the game of baseball, but I urge all Skenes owners to exercise caution going forward and potentially trade him if the price is right.
#16 Ben Rice 1B/C NYY 27.4
As the pre-eminent Ben Rice stans, I feel like I have to comment on his ice-cold last couple of weeks.
I'm not going to deny that he has looked pretty terrible in the last ten games, but he seems to be breaking out of this minor slump with a HR on 6/30 and reach base 3 times the next game.
I'm going to hold firm on him because I don't think there's anything to worry about. I think you're just experiencing the ups and downs of a full season, which Ben Rice hasn't had the luxury of experiencing yet.

Seiya has been white hot over the last 30 days and somehow has not been the best offensive performer on his team (thanks PCA). Between PCA, Suzuki, and Dansby, Chicago have three of the top five offensive players over the last month and still only are only 18-12 in their last 30? Help that make sense for me.
Back to Seiya, I exercised a little bit of caution with his ranking after his injury to start the year but he clearly has righted the ship. Even with a little bit of regression, he's still going to be a terrific dynasty asset for the remainder of the year. He's a great target for a win-now team if he is available.

This was just the start I was looking for to solidify that Eury was back. To go seven perfect innings and still barely came out with a win that’s hilarious for the Marlins.
It was also against a really good offense with the A's so this was no walk in the park. You've got to be pretty talented to do that in Sutter Park this time of year.
The season stats are not jumping off the page for me but he's still K'ing over one per inning and the whip looks really good. I'm fully on board the Eury train.

I keep wanting to fade Dillon Dingler but I have to give it to him, he has looked incredibly strong this year.
I also love that the Tigers are getting him in on off days at DH rather than just benching him because it's so much more valuable to have a catcher who plays 140 games plus than a catcher who is taking a break every third day but not getting in the lineup.

I almost bought low on Rooker in a couple of leagues and I'm really glad I couldn't make the trade happen now that it was just announced that he's out for the year with knee surgery.
I'm a big fan of Rooker and I think he has the opportunity to age somewhat gracefully but he was not great this year in the 32% K rate was pretty alarming.
He will probably be a preseason top 100 player again next year but I'm dropping him pretty low just because there are better options this year and I don't want to tie up too much value in a 32 year old who is out with knee surgery for the rest of 2026.
#166 Bryce Rainer SS DET 21.0
I am a big fan of Rainer and am very bullish on him long term. Here is the 11th overall pick out of Harvard Westlake in 2024 and has battled the injury bug until this year. He has put together an up-and-down performance this year with some really weird stats.

So I'm not really sure what to think from here. On one hand I think he's got a pretty incredible hit tool but on the other hand it doesn't seem to be playing at the High-A level (or at least he's gotten incredibly lucky to have decent surface stats while having poor underlying numbers).
I don't want to move off my aggressive ranking of him just yet but if the underlying numbers don't improve, I don't think he will be the premium prospect I once thought he was.
#187 Sebastian Walcott SS/3B TEX 20.3
Walcott is a guy who is so fun to dream on because the tools are so loud. I am bullish on him continuing to have exceptional prospect value once he returns from injury. I can see a world where he is a universal top 10 guy if he hits the ground running returning from injury while also given some grace if he stumbles.
At the end of the day he's an incredibly high-variance prospect where he could be a major contributor at the big league level or absolutely flame out. These are the kind of prospects you want to gamble on because the upside is so high. If there's an acquisition discount in your league to grab him, I would jump all over it. Just don't be surprised if he never amounts to much in the big leagues.
#206 Franklin Arias SS BOS 20.6
Arias may need to be re-evaluated as he is killing it at AA right now. I just don’t love that he is undersized and worried he will have more of a contact focused approach at the big league level. Realistically he should probably be climbing closer to the top 20. I'll probably be re-evaluating over the next couple of weeks.
#207 Josuar Gonzalez SS SF 18.7
Josuar is getting a lot of recognition right now in the industry, but for me it just comes down to proximity to the major leagues. No doubt that he's tearing it up but he's still only at the complex level. He will definitely move up my rankings considerably as he continues to produce at higher levels but for me I'm comfortable having him in the mid 30s while there's still so many unknowns.
It might mean my conservativism will cause me to miss out, but I still have him at #207 overall so I don't think I'm too low on him relative to the market.
#241 Ryan Sloan SP SEA 20.4
For Sloan, his ranking has less to do with his skill set and more to do with how I value pitching prospects in dynasty leagues. My motto is “there is no such thing as a pitching prospect”, which is an exaggerated way to say that I would rather invest my prospect capital in a hitter because pitchers are so susceptible to injuries and their value evaporating before they have a chance to hit the big league level.
Sloan is the #4 non-debuted SP (behind Hernandez, Anderson, and White) on my list, I would look at them that way rather than his ranking compared to all of the hitters and debuted pitchers overall. I’m very bullish on him long-term, but from a dynasty prospect perspective, pictures are hard to rank incredibly high.
#253 Jake Bennett SP BOS 25.6
Jake Bennett completely flew under the radar for me and I actually had a friend bring him to my attention. Now that Connelly Early is out, I think he could be a very solid rotation piece for the long term.

If you guys remember Jay Groome, who was drafted by the Red Sox and the intention for the number one overall pick his draft year, I think Bennett fits the archetype that Groome was always supposed to be. Big, physical, in the zone, great stuff without premium velocity.
Guys like this are great when they're left-handers because they can soak up a ton of high quality innings and never really get figured out the same way that right-handers of similar caliber seem to. I don't think he's going to be like Peyton Tolle with the premium stuff but he's going to be the "soft tossing" version of him (93 MPH AVG FB).
He has a start tonight against the Angels that I'm very excited to watch and see how he performs. It's kind of a soft matchup so I'm hoping he's able to dominate. I'm a buyer here and think he could continue to march up the rankings through the rest of the season.

It's a bummer to see Ben Brown go down with the same neck injury he was suffering from in 2024. I was very pleasantly surprised with his stuff this year and thought there was some helium with his dynasty value until he got hurt.
If you were in a deep dynasty league and rebuilding, I could see taking a flyer on him this year and hoping that he picked up where he left off in 2027 but outside of that I'm not sure how much value he'll provide this year.
