How FanRanked Dynasty Rankings Work: FRV Explained

Learn how FanRanked calculates dynasty fantasy baseball rankings using expert consensus and community-driven FRV (FanRanked Value) ratings. Understand the methodology behind the most comprehensive free rankings aggregator.

What Makes FanRanked Different?

FanRanked takes a fundamentally different approach to dynasty fantasy baseball rankings. Instead of relying on a single analyst's opinion, we aggregate rankings from dozens of expert sources and combine them with community-driven ratings.

The result is the most comprehensive and balanced view of player value available anywhere — and it's completely free.

Expert Consensus Rankings

Our expert consensus rankings are built by collecting dynasty rankings from the top sources in the industry. For each player, we calculate:

  • Average Rank — The mean rank across all sources that include the player
  • Rank Range — The highest and lowest rank from any source, showing where experts disagree
  • Source Count — How many expert sources have ranked the player
  • Players ranked by more sources have more reliable consensus rankings. When you see a player with a tight rank range (e.g., #15-#20), experts largely agree on their value. A wide range (e.g., #30-#80) signals disagreement — which is where you can find value in your dynasty leagues.

    FRV: FanRanked Value

FRV is our community-driven rating system. It works through head-to-head voting matchups:

  • You're shown two players side by side
  • You choose which player you'd rather have in a dynasty league
  • Your vote (along with thousands of others) updates each player's FRV rating
  • FRV operates on a 0-100 scale. A higher FRV means the community values that player more. The rating uses an Elo-style algorithm, so beating a higher-rated player moves your rating up more than beating a lower-rated one.

    Why FRV Matters

Expert consensus is valuable, but it has blind spots. FRV captures what thousands of actual fantasy managers think — often ahead of the expert curve. When FRV and expert consensus diverge significantly, it can signal:

  • Undervalued players — High FRV, low expert rank means the community sees value experts are missing
  • Overvalued players — Low FRV, high expert rank means the community isn't buying the hype
  • Breakout candidates — Rapidly rising FRV often precedes expert rank jumps
  • Dynasty vs. Redraft Rankings

FanRanked supports both dynasty (long-term) and season-long (redraft) ranking modes:

  • Dynasty rankings weight long-term value, age, and prospect status heavily
  • Redraft rankings focus on current-season production projections
  • You can switch between modes on the rankings page or in the trade calculator to see how player values shift based on your league format.
