Dynasty: too close to call. The FanRanked staff dynasty board has them nearly level, Sloan #160 and Wheeler #161, but the expert consensus has Wheeler ahead (#94 to #113). The community rates them even, FRV 55.7 and 55.0.
JD on Ryan Sloan (Jul 3, 2026): For Sloan, his ranking has less to do with his skill set and more to do with how I value pitching prospects in dynasty leagues. My motto is “there is no such thing as a pitching prospect”, which is an exaggerated way to say that I would rather invest my prospect capital in a hitter because pitchers are so susceptible to injuries and their value evaporating before they have a chance to hit the big league level. Sloan is the #4 non-debuted SP (behind Hernandez, Anderson, and White) on my list, I would look at them that way rather than his ranking compared to all of the hitters and debuted pitchers overall. I’m very bullish on him long-term, but from a dynasty prospect perspective, pictures are hard to rank incredibly high.
JD on Zack Wheeler (Nov 2, 2026): I have to take Zach Wheeler at his word when he says that he is not going to pitch again after 2027. Even if he does end up signing another deal and getting a couple more years out of his arm, he still will be 38 years old for the majority of the season and will still be subject to a very steep aging curve. If you're a gambler then by all means feel free to try to ride the lightning with Wheeler, but this value reflects a top-10 projected season for a starting pitcher in 2027 and nothing else after that. He is the ultimate win-now piece with a defined lifetime, probably the first one since we saw David Ortiz or Mariano Rivera in their final seasons.
