JD on Miguel Vargas (Oct 2, 2026): I think Miguel Vargas is the first entry on this list of someone who is a post-hype breakout player. He absolutely put it all together this year with an .837 OPS, .378 xwOBA, in a 14.3% BB rate versus only a 17.9% K rate. There's also no reason to think this isn't sustainable as the underlying metrics on his Savant are glowing red and his expected stats say he is actually marginally unlucky this year. I definitely think this breakout is sustainable because he's always shown flashes of this exact profile in limited sample sizes; however he's never put it together for a full season like this. After the All-Star break in 2025 he had a very similar profile slashing .267/.354/.436 with comparable plate discipline data. He more or less has put up this type of performance for 1.5 years now, and really tapped into his power in 2026 without sacrificing his contact rates. With the White Sox looking to make a run in the playoffs and all around putting a great team on the field, Vargas could be a sneaky top-10 candidate next year if he builds on his strong 2026.
JD on Zach Neto (Oct 20, 2026): It's a shame that Zach Neto gets overlooked as one of the truly elite players in the game. For all the hate that the Angels get about their player development skills and rushing prospects, Neto seems to be one of the players who has thrived despite the accelerated timelines. He has put up three straight years of 20/20 seasons and been an overall net positive contributor in both runs and RBIs. This was really the first year where his batting average was a liability, but at .239 you can stomach it when the other four categories are great, if not elite. Sure, he's not putting up these numbers with amazing peripherals and he does strike out a lot, but you don't have to pay a top-25 price to get him and his contributions. In a lot of dynasty rankings he sits outside of the top 40, which is insane to me for a guy entering his age 26 season coming off of arguably his best season as a major leaguer. I would be taking the discount here if it's available in your league all day.
