Dynasty: too close to call. Redraft: Reid Detmers. The FanRanked staff dynasty board has them nearly level, Detmers #110 and King #112, but the expert consensus has King ahead (#177 to #199). The community rates them even, FRV 53.6 and 51.5. For 2026 redraft, the consensus has Detmers ahead, #89 to #123, and the rest-of-season engine agrees ($10 and $13).
JD on Reid Detmers (Sep 17, 2026): The Angels fired Mike Maddux on August 11th. Since that day, Reid Detmers has logged a 1.15 ERA with 10 K/9 and a miniscule 0.7/9 BB rate. Word is that Mike Maddux was very anti-sabermetrics and letting pitchers gather data to improve their game. It reminds me of when the Nationals posted a sign in the bullpen last year that read "I don't care how hard you throw ball 4" and it led to one of the worst staffs in the league. Its also a really bad look when you coach arguably the worst staff in a league, and as soon as you leave they become a borderline top 10 staff. It's amazing what an impact a rotten organizational structure can do to a players development, and I don't think this is the last example of incompetence that is uncovered now that Arte Moreno is out of the picture. For Detmers specifically, I'm hoping that the breakout we've been waiting on for years is finally here and be builds off of a strong 2026 to be a Cy Young candidate in 2027.
