His fastball touches 100 and his changeup already grades as a 70 for scouts. Command is the swing skill to track, but the strikeout equity and ratio upside make him a top-two 2026 FYPD selection regardless of role. He slots in number three immediately for me, just behind Seth Hernandez and Kate Anderson.
JD on Zack Wheeler (Nov 2, 2026): I have to take Zach Wheeler at his word when he says that he is not going to pitch again after 2027. Even if he does end up signing another deal and getting a couple more years out of his arm, he still will be 38 years old for the majority of the season and will still be subject to a very steep aging curve. If you're a gambler then by all means feel free to try to ride the lightning with Wheeler, but this value reflects a top-10 projected season for a starting pitcher in 2027 and nothing else after that. He is the ultimate win-now piece with a defined lifetime, probably the first one since we saw David Ortiz or Mariano Rivera in their final seasons.
