JD on Dylan Cease (Oct 21, 2026): Cease figuring out how to harness the slider that he lost in 2025 seems to be the reason he was able to put up the best year of his career since 2022. He also is an absolute workhorse, making 32 or 33 starts every year from 2021 to 2025 and still making 29 in 2026. Part of me wishes he could just find a middle ground between his great seasons and his bad seasons rather than being such a peak-and-valley pitcher. He kind of has that Manny Machado vibe to him where every other year he used to go off. While he's not the sexiest pitcher on this list anymore, he's going to pile up strikeouts and should be relied on to give you significant innings every year, even if the WHIP varies as his feel comes and goes. Just remember that he's 31 years old next season and just because he's been a workhorse for his career doesn't exempt him from an injury flaring up out of nowhere.
JD on Pete Alonso (Oct 20, 2026): Old, steady, reliable Pete probably has a good 3 or 4 years left in him of elite fantasy production. Right-handed bat-first first 1B with his "build" typically don't age gracefully, but his all-around stellar performance this year makes me think there's more in the tank than I would have thought at the beginning of 2026. Alonso edges out other bat-first mashers like Schwarber and Judge for me because he's got a couple of years of youth on his side. Just don't run too fast to pick him up in dynasty drafts this offseason or you might end up looking like this:
