Tarik Skubal, in dynasty and redraft. The FanRanked staff dynasty board has Skubal ahead, Skubal #19 and Burns #26, and the expert consensus agrees (#24 and #14). The community agrees too, FRV 83.5 to 70.3. For 2026 redraft, the consensus has Skubal ahead, #17 to #61.
JD on Chase Burns (May 27, 2026): This is an example of someone who I haven't fully bought into this stuff yet even though his metrics are obviously off the charts. As a side note think about how crazy it is that Chase Burns averages 98 mph on his fastball and that's still two full ticks below Misiorowski's fastball average. The stuff is obviously incredible but when there's another young pitcher out there eclipsing him by two full miles per hour, he's going to have to take a backseat to him for the time being. The command is average but the stuff is exceptional and you can bet on exceptional stuff all day. The only other knock on him is that pitching at Cincinnati might lead to a little bit tougher of an offensive environment than you typically see for a player's home ballpark but not something I'm willing to adjust the rankings for.
JD on Tarik Skubal (May 27, 2026): Like I said in the Skenes blurb, I would have had him as my number one overall starter before the season started in Dynasty but the injury bug bit him. You can't have an injured pitcher be the number one overall in Dynasty option. Allegedly he is progressing well through rehab but if I see him come back towards the end of the year like he never missed a beat, then he might move back up for me. Like a house of cards, once you pull one card out of the foundation, things start to crumble and the whole frame becomes less stable. Obviously upside is number one overall pitcher. No one is disputing that. It's a matter of preference at this point. My preference is healthier, more durable pitchers over injury-prone pitchers, even if their upside might be higher.
