JD on Braxton Ashcraft (Jul 28, 2026): How the heck did Ashcraft slip under the radar for me? I watched a couple of the starts this year in man was he impressive April / May of this year. It does look like the wheels are coming off a bit in July with a 7.78 ERA across four starts but I'm willing to chalk that up to him just being a bit tired and not used to a full big league season under his belt. I still think long term he will be a pretty valuable starting pitcher (think top 50 SP) but don't expect a ton from him the rest of the way, especially if the underlying velo deteriorates and Pirates elect to shut him down to not risk him for future years.
JD on Freddy Peralta (Jun 22, 2026): Five nights at Freddy's just got absolutely decimated in a start against the Phillies this weekend, and it made me take notice of his overall average performance and stuff this year. The FB velo has dropped 1MPH, the whiff rate has dropped by 3.5 percentage points, and the K-BB% has drop 6 percentage points. With him now on the wrong side of thirty I don't know if you can bet on him to be dominate like he was with the Brewers going forward. If I had shares of Freddy, I would be actively shopping him right now to see if I can find someone who hasn't caught on to his profile change with the Mets.
