Dynasty: too close to call. The FanRanked staff dynasty board has them nearly level, Gilbert #42 and Judge #44, but the expert consensus has Judge ahead (#19 to #45). The community leans Judge, FRV 80.3 to 75.6.
JD on Aaron Judge (Oct 20, 2026): If you could guarantee 150+ games for Aaron Judge for the next 5 years, would he be a top 10 dynasty player despite the back half of that coming in his late 30s? I think he is a generational talent that the aging curves and rules don't necessarily apply to, but the injury concern is very real and can't be overlooked. I don't think we are getting any more seasons like 2024 and 2025, but even 75% of his peak is still an incredibly valuable asset in fantasy baseball. Unfortunately he is going to suffer from "hot potato syndrome", which I will begin using more frequently as we work through these rankings. Hot Potato Syndrome- When holding an aging veteran who is still performing at a high level, you run the risk of something happening where their value can evaporate in the blink of an eye and you won't be able to trade them for any sort of value. See 2023 Paul Goldschmidt, Max Scherzer, and Nolan Arenado. Judge probably has a couple more years in him where he will continue to be valuable, but the ever present Hot Potato is always going to be lingering in the background, making him one of the highest variance players you can have on your team heading into 2027. Make sure you know the risks before deciding what you want to do with him heading into next year.
JD on Logan Gilbert (Oct 20, 2026): Logan Gilbert is a borderline case for me, because despite the fact that he will be 30 in 2027, I think he's got a lot of life left in his arm. I think he's very likely to take the Kevin Gausman-type path where he is very valuable accumulating innings with great ratios and good K rates. I also love pitchers who minimize walks and keep their WHIP down and Logan Gilbert is the poster child for minimizing free passes without the expense of making himself much more hittable. I do think his value takes a significant hit if he isn't able to come to a long-term deal with the Mariners and ends up signing elsewhere, as some of those home run issues (that I think T-Mobile Park covers for him) could rear their heads in a worse pitcher's environment. It's impossible for me to speculate where he ends up going after 2027 so it's a fool's errand to try to knock his value down because of it, but it is a real threat facing him if he signs with a team like the Yankees or Phillies. Just something to keep in mind if you are making a roster decision regarding Gilbert in 2027.
